Mental Health First Aid Seniors
Course Overview
Mental Health First Aid Seniors trains participants to effectively respond to an emerging mental health problem or crisis for adults 65 and over, until the situation is resolved or appropriate treatment is found.
Mental Health First Aid Seniors focuses on recognizing the signs and symptoms of Mental Health problems, providing initial help to a person who maybe experiencing a mental health crisis and how to guide a person towards appropriate professional help. MHFA Seniors is an adaptation of the MHFA course that is intended to increase the capacity of older adults, families (informal caregivers), friends, staff in care settings and communities to promote mental health in older adults, prevent mental illness and suicide wherever possible in older adults and intervene early when problems first emerge.
Course Objectives
- Recognize the symptoms of mental health problems or crises as they develop in seniors
- Provide the initial help to seniors
- Guide a senior and caregiver towards appropriate professional help
- Provide strategies and resources to support both seniors and their caregivers

- Suicidal behaviour
- Panic attack
- Acute stress reaction
- Psychotic episode

In Person
- Minimum of 10 participants
- $2200 per session. $220 for each additional participant
