Awards
Presented at the CMHA-NL Annual General Meeting, these awards recognize and celebrate the outstanding contributions of individuals and organizations to mental health in Newfoundland & Labrador. Applications for the 2025 nominations are now open with a updated extended deadline of Friday October 10. Please see below for the categories and forms.
Leadership Award
This award honours a mental health service provider, researcher, advocate, or community leader who has demonstrated exceptional leadership in the advancement of mental health in Newfoundland and Labrador. Eligible recipients will have made significant contributions through clinical practice, research, advocacy, or community-based initiatives. This award recognizes individuals whose sustained efforts have influenced mental health awareness, policy, or service delivery in a meaningful and measurable way. The Leadership Award is intended for those in formal or informal positions of leadership, including professionals and community advocates whose impact extends beyond volunteer service.
Mental Health Research Scholarship
One scholarship valued at $1000 will be awarded to both recognize and support mental health research relevant to Newfoundland and Labrador. Projects should be at the graduate, post-graduate, or post-doctoral level. Applicants from a diverse array of disciplines are encouraged. This scholarship will be awarded based on the quality of the proposed project, potential contribution to mental health research, and achievements of the applicant. Applications should include: a curriculum vitae, university transcripts, one-page project summary, and a letter of support from the student’s research supervisor.
Pottle Award
Established in memoriam of the late Dr. Clarence Pottle—psychiatrist and the first provincial Director of Mental Health Services in Newfoundland and Labrador—this award recognizes a dedicated volunteer who has shown tireless commitment to mental health in the province. The Pottle Award is awarded based on the quality, consistency, and impact of the individual’s volunteer contributions. It is intended for those whose work in the mental health field has been offered freely, without professional obligation or remuneration.
Workplace Excellence Award
This award is given annually to an outstanding organization that has advanced the promotion of workplace mental health.
