At Work is a federally-funded (Employment and Social Development Canada) national program delivered in 13 communities across Canada, designed to assist individuals with mental health issues and who are unemployed (or under-employed), to obtain and maintain competitive employment. The program was established to provide employment support, job maintenance and job retention services to participants with mental health issues.
As well, it will provide employer awareness activities and financial incentives (a wage subsidy) to employers that will assist them in filling their hiring needs. Any individual aged 16 or over, legally entitled to work in Canada, who self-identifies as having a mental health illness and who is unemployed or under-employed is eligible. Individuals must not be EI eligible (have not drawn EI in last 5 years). Two Employment Case Managers have been hired to implement and deliver the program which began on February 2, 2016. The program ends on August 20, 2018.
