CMHA-NL Celebrates National Volunteer Week April 7 – 13, 2019

(St. John’s, NL) – National Volunteer Week (NVW) is a time to recognize, thank and celebrate Canada’s 12.7 million volunteers. This year’s NVW theme is: “The Volunteer Factor – Lifting Communities”.

The Canadian Mental Health Association, Newfoundland and Labrador Division (CMHA-NL), would like to take this opportunity to recognize and thank its volunteers for their dedication in supporting mental health across the province.

“Volunteers at CMHA are indeed paramount in the work of our association,” said Donna Kavanagh, CMHA-NL Board of Directors President. “With limited funding and a small staff in three offices, volunteers are essential in helping us meet our goals in a variety of ways, through advocacy, education, office support, fundraising, organizing and participating in events, committees and Board involvement.”

At CMHA-NL, volunteering can take many forms, including planning and coordinating annual fundraising and awareness events, such as Hot Soup Cool Jazz, Ride Don’t Hide, and the Tickle Swim. These activities help improve the quality of life for individuals and families who are affected by mental health issues by raising much needed awareness and funds.

Kavanagh said, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of our volunteers for their invaluable contribution to CMHA-NL, and to mental health and addictions in our province. You truly are making a difference.”

Current and former CMHA-NL volunteers, as well as those interested in volunteer opportunities within the organization, are invited to attend a National Volunteer Week social at CMHA-NL’s Head Office in St. John’s on Friday, April 12, 2019, 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM. Light refreshments will be provided. This event is free to attend, however guests are asked to RSVP at https://cmhanl.rsvpify.com.
