September 20-26, 2021 is International Week of Deaf People
Making it the ideal time to bring an ongoing issue in our education system to the forefront. Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) children in mainstream school systems, particularly those whose first language is American Sign Language (ASL), are at risk of social isolation leading to poor mental health outcomes in schools designed for hearing children and a hearing culture. Partnership with the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association led to the statement crafted and released this week by the CMHA-NL.
