Housing Support Worker, Justice Program
Type: Temporary contract ending June 2021 (possibility of extension)

Canadian Mental Health Association Newfoundland and Labrador Division (CMHA-NL) is a provincial division of CMHA, the nationwide leader and champion for mental health. Our mission is to facilitate access to the resources people require to maintain and improve mental health and community integration, build resilience and support recovery from mental illness. CMHA-NL’s provincial head office is in St. John’s, and we also have two regional offices located in Grand Falls-Windsor (Central) and Stephenville (Western).
ABOUT THE POSITION
Join the dynamic team of the Newfoundland and Labrador Division of the Canadian Mental Health Association – Justice Program.
Reporting to the Justice Program Manager, the successful candidate will provide housing support services to clients of the Justice Program.
Complete all supports related to housing such as housing searches, securing housing and tenancy maintenance. Building relationships with existing landlords and new landlords, providing support to individuals and landlords as necessary. Working with property management and housing systems such as NLHC, and Emergency housing. The Housing support worker will work closely with the Social Work Case Managers to ensure appropriate discharge from facilities and support individuals with housing needs.
Post-Secondary degree or diploma in social sciences or human services field. Minimum two years’ experience in working with people who live with complex mental health and addiction concerns. Proven experience securing housing. Knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act. Experience working in the mental health field with individuals experiencing mental illness/mental health concerns; excellent problem-solving skills & working knowledge of local community resources. Adaptable to working in varied environments with ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with several key stakeholders. Ability to work with minimum supervision & as part of a team. Strong communication and organizational skills. Must have valid First Aid/CPR, ASIST certification. Flexible hours (some evening and weekend, as required). Knowledge of or experience in the correctional field preferred.
