It is often reported that the most challenging part of intervening is knowing what to say. MHFA Basic is an interactive and content-rich course designed to increase participant knowledge of mental health and how to support other adults (18 years and older) who may be experiencing mental ill health. Participants having taken MHFA training report that they are able to interact confidently about mental health with their family, friends, workplaces and other communities.\nTraining will include the four most common mental health disorders: substance-related, mood-related, anxiety/trauma-related, and psychotic disorders, while also dispelling myths, misinformation, and stigma associated with mental health problems.\nEvidence gathered by the Mental Health Commission of Canada shows that taking a MHFA course increases the confidence participants have in engaging someone experiencing a mental health problem or crisis.\nCourse Objectives\n•Increased awareness of signs and symptoms of the most common mental health problems\n• Decreased stigma related to mental health\n• Increased confidence interacting with individuals experiencing a mental health problem or crisis\n•Increased help actually provided to individuals in crisis or experiencing a mental health problem\nCrisis First Aid Skills Learned\n•Substance overdose\n•Suicidal behaviour\n•Panic attack\n• Acute stress reaction\n•Psychotic episodes\n_____________________________________________________________\nPLEASE NOTE:\n• Seats are limited for in-person & sponsored courses; please register early!
