September 15, 2008 – In recognition of Mental Illness Awareness Week (October 5 – 11, 2008), CMHA-NL, in partnership with CHANNAL, Department of Health and Community Services, Discipline of Psychiatry Faculty of Medicine, Eastern Health, and Schizophrenia Society of Newfoundland and Labrador, will be holding a symposium on Tuesday, October 7 on Adults and Depression. March 4, 2008 – Mental Health Week is a national event held by CMHA each year to raise awareness of mental health issues, and provide learning opportunities to help all Canadians achieve and maintain good mental health in their everyday lives.
Following on the success of last year’s theme of work-life balance, the theme for CMHA’s 57th Mental Health Week (May 5 to May 11, 2008) is “Mental Health: Make it Your Business”, and is centered on the role of employers and businesses in creating productive, mentally healthy environments in their workplaces.

February 25, 2008 – Strategic Planning Update: To date, consultant John Abbott (Institute for the Advancement of Public Policy, Inc.) has conducted more than 40 key informant interviews, including CMHA-NL staff, the Board of Directors, and key stakeholders in the mental health field.
On February 16, CMHA-NL board and staff came together for a one-day session with the consultant to discuss these findings and give input on developing our vision, mission, values, and our top strategic directions and objectives for the future. The final report will be released in April.
